2. Personalizing Your AI Assistant 🎨

Set Daan's default AI models. Choose your favorite 'brain' for new chats and configure the model used for automatically generating chat titles, making your history clearer.

πŸš€ Make Daan Truly Yours

In the previous step, we successfully connected to the AI service. Now, let's personalize things a bit to make Daan even handier. We'll mainly set two defaults:

  1. Default Chat "Brain" (Default Model): Which AI model should answer you by default every time you start a new regular chat?
  2. Default Summary "Writer" (Default Summary Model): If Daan automatically generates titles for your chats (feature enabled), which AI model should handle this task?

Why set these?

  • Convenience: Avoids manually selecting a model every time you start a new chat.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: You can choose a powerful model for conversations and a more economical one for simple tasks like generating titles.

πŸ› οΈ Let's Get Setting:

  1. Enter Settings Again:

    • Just like before, click the gear icon βš™οΈ in the top-left corner of Daan's main interface to enter System Settings.
  2. Find Function Settings:

    • In the settings window's top tabs, this time click the "Function" tab. This area holds settings related to features and default values.
  3. Choose Your Default Chat Model:

    • Locate the "Default Model" setting.
    • You'll see a dropdown menu β–Ό. Click it.
    • The menu will list available models from the API providers you have enabled (based on your choices in the "API" tab).
    • Take a look at the model names. Different models have different strengths:
      • gpt-4o: Usually very powerful and smart, but might be more expensive.
      • gpt-3.5-turbo: Good value, fast, suitable for everyday tasks.
      • gemini-1.5-flash: A capable model from Google.
      • (Other options will appear depending on the services you enabled)
    • Select the one you use most often or prefer as your default. Click its name to choose it.
  4. Choose Your Default Summary Model:

    • Locate the "Default Summary Model" setting.
    • Again, click the dropdown menu β–Ό.
    • This selects the model that will automatically write chat titles for you. This task is relatively simple and doesn't require the most powerful model.
    • Recommendation: Choose a model that is capable enough but cheaper/has more free usage. For example, gpt-3.5-turbo or a lightweight model like Gemini 1.0 Flash Lite (if available). This saves costs while still getting decent titles.
    • Click the model name to select it.
  5. (Optional) Enable Auto Title Summarization:

    • In the "Function" settings, you'll likely see a toggle switch named "Summary Chat Title" or similar.
    • If you want Daan to automatically generate a title based on your conversation content and display it in the left sidebar list, make sure this switch is ON βœ….
    • If you prefer to name each chat manually, you can turn it OFF ❌.
  6. Check and Finish:

    • Confirm that the default chat and summary models are the ones you want.
    • Settings are usually saved automatically. You can close the settings window now.

✨ Settings Complete!

Now, every time you click "+ New Chat", Daan will automatically use your chosen default model! And if auto-summary is enabled, titles will be generated automatically after a few messages. Much more convenient, right?

Next up, let's actually start chatting with the AI!
